DBHDD Congratulates Dr. Charles Li and Sen. Renee Unterman

DBHDD Assistant Commissioner Dr. Charles Li was awarded the "Advocate of the Year" by SPADD (Service Providers Association for Developmental Disabilities) at their 2013 Annual Conference on May 6, 2013. In addition, Senator Renee Unterman, who chairs the state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, was awarded the "Legislator of the Year". SPADD is a coalition of both public and private providers of community-based developmental disabilities services in Georgia that work to improve service quality by educating the provider community.

Generation Rx Project

Nonmedical use of prescription drugs has grown substantially since the 1990s, and is responsible for an increasing number of emergency room visits and overdose deaths. On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 11 a.m., DBHDD Commissioner Frank Berry will join leaders from the Georgia Legislature and youth from Catoosa, Early and Gwinnett Counties at the Georgia Capitol to launch the Generation Rx (GEN Rx) Project. The two-fold objective of GEN Rx is to reduce prescription drug misuse and abuse among 12-25 year olds, and educate the public about proper disposal of unused and expired prescription medications. For more information please contact Latrina Patrick, DBHDD at 404-232-1582 or lapatrick@dbhdd.ga.gov.
